SQL Server Hosting

SQL Server hosting providers listed by their different offerings. The top SQL Server hosting packages are listed here in the hopes that you can find a SQL Server hosting package that suits your IT needs.

What Is a SQL Server?

A dedicated SQL Server runs the SQL server program developed by Microsoft that contains a relational database management system. With SQL server, related information is stored in one common searchable database, making it easy to define search parameters to find a specific piece of information. SQL servers can be queried, or searched, using standardized query languages. These include T-SQL, Entity-SQL, and ANSI SQL. These SQL languages enable queries, or commands, to be made to the database. These queries allow the user to insert information, search the database, and select data from the database, among other functions.

Understanding a Relational Database Management System

The key to understanding an SQL server is first understanding the relational database management system (RDMS) that all SQL systems are based on. A RDMS is a system of databases that collect and organize data into tables that can be searched without the need to reorganize the tables. These tables are searched using one of the three standardized structured query languages (SQL).

There are several benefits to using these databases. First, they are easy to create. Once the parameters are defined, information is quickly and simply entered and stored on the database server. Second, modifying or extending one of these databases is also simple. The existing information does not have to be changed to add a category to the database. Finally, adding information to the database requires very little effort.

A common use of these databases is to store customer order information for a business. The table will include columns for name, phone number, address, product purchased, and date of an order. When needed, the business owner could search for a particular customer and see his purchasing pattern. The database can also be used to search for accounts that have not been paid when billing time rolls around. These databases can also be used on websites. PHP language allows the website to recall information from a SQL database and display it online.

Storing SQL Databases - using SQL Server Hosting

Businesses that store information through SQL servers can purchase SQL server hosting. This product allows the databases to be stored outside of the business's own computer, leaving the memory on the business computers for other functions and providing a safeguard against computer problems that can occur within the business. Storing the information on a host's computer allows the user to manage the SQL database remotely using just an Internet connection. The host's computers can be accessed any time the user is online. A good host will do a regular SQL server backup to ensure that the information stored with the host is protected.

Hosting also ensures that information stored in the database is always available. Whether it is being used by a website or needs to be accessible by several employees within the enterprise, outside SQL server hosting makes it possible for the data to be available any time it is needed, even if the business's main computer is not on.

SQL server hosting can be purchased as a stand-alone product (see our dedicated hosting services) or integrated into a website hosting plan. When shopping for this type of hosting, look for a company that does regular SQL server backups, offers plenty of storage space, and has proper security protocols in place to protect sensitive business information.
