MEMBERSHIP & POSTING RULES/GUIDELINES

We appreciate you as a registered member of our family or your desire to become a member. We absolutely want you to have a fun, positive and pleasant experience on our forums. Consequently, by using the forums, all new and existing members agree to abide by the following Rules and Guidelines.

Please take the time to read the following text carefully in its entirety.

(We also encourage you to use our forum postings in favor of private messages, your questions will go a long way in benefiting others). If you have any questions, please contact webmaster@bsdforums.org.


  1. Please, no CUSSING (including using creative symbols and characters to void the censor) in the subject lines, you will lose your posting privileges immediately.
  2. Please, NO SPAMMING USERS, NO SOLICITING OTHERS VIA (PM) PRIVATE MESSAGING OR EMAIL, NO ADVERTIZING, PLEASE DO NOT PROMOTE YOUR PERSONAL SITE OR SITES YOU OWN, NO FLOODING WITH IMPERTINENT POSTINGS. SUCH POSTS MAY BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE OR EXPLANATION.
  3. Direct, redirected and/or misleading links with an intent to sell/promote goods and/or services are not allowed in posts or your sigs. Sorry, we do not allow links to your/other forums in sigs.
  4. If you have materials to share, please attach them or paste them inline in your posts. POSTS intended to promote your web site, SUCH AS "I have this wonderful script, come get it on my web site", "Please, I am having trouble, please visit my site to help", or "I have this cool web site I have setup", "I have put together these cool things for everyone's benefit on my site", etc. WILL BE DELETED. Please, do not solicit people for projects/work via all/any means such as emails/posts/PMs.
  5. Please, do not link to commercial buying/selling sites, web hosting company/sites in your signatures. We will remove them without notice.
  6. Please, no looking to buy, buying, looking to sell or selling in any forum.
  7. Kindly treat others as you would like to be treated.
  8. PLEASE, NO FLAMING, NO PERSONAL ATTACKS, NO EXCESSIVELY ANGRY BEHAVIOR, NO SHOUTING, especially Linux vs. FreeBSD vs. OpenBSD vs. NetBSD vs. WHATEVER ELSE.
  9. PLEASE, AVOID BEING RUDE, INTIMIDATING, CONFRONTATIONAL, SARCASTIC OR UNKIND, ESPECIALLY TOWARDS NEWBIES.
  10. PLEASE MAINTAIN YOUR DIGNITY & COURTESY.
  11. We reserve the right to remove any account without any reason whatsoever.
  12. Please help us keep it clean. Please, no CUSSING words in user names, do not create your username with pornographic words, prefixes or suffixes. Please use your sound judgement when creating your account.
  13. Usernames containing, resembling domain name extensions, urls, etc. are not allowed, such as having .net, .org, .com or any other extension. Please, do not create usernames that resemble domains. Sorry, we do not allow (self) site promotion, (self) advertizing (please do not construct avatars/images that promote your/other web sites) .
  14. Valid email address required at all times.
  15. Posts will be removed or edited at the discretion of either a forum moderator or administrator.
  16. Please, DO NOT CROSSPOST, i.e. DO NOT POST THE SAME MESSAGE IN MULTIPLE FORUMS OR MULTIPLE TIMES. Members are very diligent in helping you out, so there is absolutely no need to crosspost! Multiple posts will be deleted without notice.
  17. Please coexist peacefully and respect every individual's "choice" of hardware, software, whatever on our forums site.
  18. Please, generate more light than heat in your postings, please correct and fingerpoint at viewpoints, not at people!
  19. Please, DO NOT LINK TO OR POST PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIALS/ATTACHMENTS.
  20. Please, do not link to or post illegal, unlicensed software, warez materials/attachments.
  21. Please, do not discredit the BSD daemon! (For example, vulgar, tasteless portrayals of the daemon, or the daemon confronting/fighting tux, other OS mascots, is not permitted. Please understand, we don't wish to start any BSD/other OS, wars/controversies).
  22. Please, respect the privacy of other members and individuals.
  23. Please, do not post personal information such as addresses phone numbers, ID numbers, or any other private info. We urge you to not use, for example, your bank account, etc. personal passwords as your Forum password.
  24. We don't spam our users but cannot guarantee that you won't receive spam on the email you use to register from others (since we have no control over how you use your email address).
  25. We also suggest that you change your password frequently say every 60, 90 days.
  26. Please, refrain from using excessive profanity dammit!
  27. We reserve the right to disable vB code privileges of any member abusing it.
  28. We only allow one account per human please, no aliases, no multiple seperate email accounts.
  29. Please, observe all copyright laws when posting copyrighted material. If the material belongs to someone else, credit the original author. Do not post material where you do not have permission to distribute it electronically or otherwise.
  30. We frequently review forum messages for those that are in violation of BSD Forums rules. Any messages found to be in violation will be deleted without warning or explanation.
  31. All messages posted become the property of BSD Forums.
  32. We also reserve the right to ban any user, at any time, and for any reason.
  33. BSD Forums and its representatives will not be held liable for the result of the usage of any information provided in the BSD Forums, and disclaim all liability resulting in the use of the posted information.
  34. You will not discuss, suggest, engage, or encourage any illegal or unlawful activity. Links provided to locations that deal with any such activity are also expressly forbidden.
  35. Please, do not post messages that violate Federal, State, or Local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or is bound by NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).
  36. BSD Forums takes no responsibility for the content of any of the messages posted in the BSD Forums or of the authenticity of its authors. All opinions and views expressed in the BSD Forums are solely those of their respective authors and are not necessarily those of BSD Forums or its representatives.
  37. BSD Forums reserves the right to change the aforementioned rules at any time without warning or notice.
  38. These rules always apply retroactive to the date you signed irrespective of when they have been changed/modified. It is the responsibility of the forum member to check this page on a regular basis for any revisions in BSD Forums rules before making any posts to the forum.
  39. Please, do not setup sig lines with cussing in them, only one url is allowed in your sig, and no sig lines with more than 2 lines total, other will be grounds for immediate removal of your posting privileges.
